Parish Councillors are elected representatives who volunteer their time freely to work on behalf of local residents. There is currently a vacancy to represent Park Street Ward. If you would like to offer your skills and experience to make Park Street, Chiswell Green and Bricket Wood better places to live then please get in touch. As a councillor you will act as a link between residents and local authorities and get involved in local decision making, joining a team of local residents dedicated to serving their community. Perhaps you know someone who would be great in this role, if so, do encourage them to get in touch.
A Parish Council benefits from diversity and we welcome interest from people of different ages, backgrounds, experiences and abilities. Good communication skills, analytical thinking, problem solving and being a team player are all valuable qualities for a councillor.
How much time you are able to commit is largely down to you and what level of involvement you are hoping for. As a minimum, you would be expected to attend the monthly Full Council meetings and consider the information relating to items on the again. These meetings are generally held on the third Thursday evening of the month. In addition, you will need to be able to participate in any committees and working groups that you join such as Planning, Leisure and Assets. Training is provided.
The Council will co-opt a candidate to fill this vacancy. Councillors are democratically elected at elections which happen every four years. The next election is due to take place in 2023 so if you wish to remain a Parish Councillor you will have to stand for election. Speak to any Councillor or the Parish Clerk for more information and eligibility criteria. For an application form contact the Clerk by emailing: email@example.com or tel: 01923 681443. The application form and a CV should be submitted by the deadline of 5 July 2021 and an informal interview will be arranged for that week.
